Indications:
Paracetamol is only administrated to treat pain and fever, for adults,teenagers and children over 33kg of weight (about 11 years old). It is prescribed in use in short-term therapy for moderate pain, especially after operating and use in short-term therapy for fever.
Contra-indications:
Paracetamol is contraindicated in conditions like Hypersensitivity.
Adverse Effects:
Side effects with acetaminophen are rare. The most serious side effect is liver damage due to large doses, chronic use or concomitant use with alcohol or other drugs that also damage the liver. Chronic alcohol use may also increase the risk of stomach bleeding.
Drug Interactions:
Be aware of the acetaminophen content of other over-the-counter and prescription products. Care should be taken to avoid taking more than the recommended amount of acetaminophen per dose or per day.
Precautions & Warning:
If sensitivity reaction occurs, discontinue use of paracetamol. If pain persist more than 10 days and arthritic and rheumatic condition affecting children, immediately consult physician. If patient have been diagnosed with liver or kidney impairment, seek medical advice before taking medication. If symptoms persist consult doctor.
Use in Pregnancy and Nursing Mothers:
Acetaminophen in all of its forms is generally considered safe during pregnancy and while breastfeeding as long as it is used exactly as prescribed and for very short durations. Pregnant or nursing mothers who require long-term pain management should speak with their physicians in order to determine the safest course of action during pregnancy and lactation. Like all medications, paracetamol should only be used in pregnancy when the benefit of the medication outweighs the risks to the fetus.
Treatment/antidote in The Event of Overdose:
There are tablets available (brand-name in the UK Paradote) that combine paracetamol with an antidote (methionine), to protect the liver in case of an overdose.
Storage instructions:
Paracetamol should be stored at a temperature below 25°c. Do not store in refrigerator or freezer. Keep out of reach of children.
